THE POWER OF THE SNOWSPORTS COMMUNITY

International Ski Federation (FIS) president Gian Franco Kasper went on-the-record denying human-caused climate change and the science that supports it. POW (Protect our winters) launched an open letter calling for his resignation…

It’s been just over a week since POW first launched this campaign, and Kasper not only remains at the helm of the FIS ship, but has also not backed down regarding his comments on climate change. Since then, however, more and more individuals and businesses have come out in support of POW’s campaign. Leaders in the industry are being made aware that the snow-loving community will not tolerate those who dismiss science to remain in positions of leadership.

Brave brand partners from inside and outside the snow sports industry joined to support POW’s efforts: brands such as Aspen Skiing Company, Burton, Patagonia, Clif, Jones Snowboards, Bemis, Alterra Mountain Company, 1% For The Planet and even the Northern Colorado chapter of 350.org.

Gone Skiing wants to join in and help POW get 10 000 emails to FIS this week and to set the expectation that those in positions of leadership within the snow sports community should also be leaders in advocating for climate solutions, not denying the science. Let’s show this climate denier the door!

Please support us in showing the climate denier the door: Send an email to FIS today!

POW’s voice is amplified by the support they received from some of the world’s best athletes. These individuals, who’ve built their careers in part by competing in FIS sanctioned events, have a lot at stake by calling out against the organization. Yet they have stood behind POW and made very public statements condemning Kasper’s remarks. Huge kudos to their alliance members: Jamie Anderson, Jessie Diggins, Danny Davis, Maddie Phaneuf and all of the other athletes who have stepped up! Give them a follow to hear more of what they have to say.

The world has noticed. Since Friday, February 8th, the coverage of POW’s open letter has reached 200 million media impressions from across the globe: The Daily Mail in Great Britain, The New York TimesESPN and even the Lahaina News in Hawaii!

Let’s back POW and show them some support from South Africa!
