The Queenstown Winter Festival is New Zealand’s biggest celebration of winter. Held over four days in late June, more than 45,000 people converge on Queenstown to P-A-R-T-Y. Nothing is too crazy and no superlatives are left untested. The Festival includes live music, competitive mountain exploits, comedy, fireworks, culinary creativeness, and polar lake plunging. Think you could handle it?
The Queenstown Winter Festival is back
… and once again welcomes in the southern hemisphere winter months. The line up looks awesome and you can even bring your best friends along – the four-legged kind that is. Monteith’s dog derby is the longest running event in the Queenstown Winter Festival calendar. It is now into its forty-third year and remains as popular as ever. The best part? Watching the event is free. Prepare for hilarity as dogs and owners alternatively slip, slide, run and roll down the Coronet Peak slopes.
Auckland Airport Suitcase Race
On Saturday night, hit the slopes and partake in some fierce competition. That’s right – the Auckland Airport Suitcase Race is on! The rules are simple: dress up and bring a suitcase along. Hop on top of your case and ride the powder. Please note that only first-place prizes are available. May the best suitcase-hugger win.
Put this one on your 2018 to-do list. Not only is it a fabulous way to start of your New Zealand holiday, but the skiing and snowboarding parks will be waiting. For more info on the Queenstown Winter Festival click here.
