What a season for Mawa and SA Snowboarding!!
Mawa
took a leap of faith, paid her own way and teamed up with the Slovenian
freestyle snowboard team under the watchful eye of coach Iztok Sumatic.
Iztok is a multi talented snowboarder and is both a FIS Slopestyle
judge, coach as well as member of the FIS Snowboarding committee.
Mawa, the Slovenian freestyle team and Iztok spent the season training and competing in various FIS Europa Cup, Slopestyle & Big Air Events. Her score sheet for the events is somewhat inspiring, finding her snow legs early in February with a 4th in Big Air and a 2nd Place in the Slopestyle Competition taking place in Sarajevo Bjelasnica, a month later Mawa was back in FIS action taking home an impressive 1st place in the Slopestyle and a 3rd place in Big Air in Kranjska Gora and then finishing off her FIS events taking another 1st in Slopestyle and a 2nd in the Big Air in Silian, Austria.
All this leaves Mawa in an awesome 3rd place in the overall standings for the Europa Cup this season!
Not content with stepping up the game in the FIS, Mawa also found time to squeeze a Ticket To Ride (TTR) event into her schedule, Mawa entered the 2 Star TTR Rogla Showdown and Slovenian leg of the Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam also in Rogla and again finished on the Podium taking home a well earned 2nd place.

We are all extremely proud of her achievements, as we’re sure her sponsors, Electric Visual, DC Snowboarding & Dakine are as well.
Special shout out to the Snowboarder Club and Snow Sports SA for their involvement in the background as well as too Marci and Jay for going over with Mawa to support her all the way.
We look forward to seeing Mawa back in SA soon, and will do our best to try and keep up with her lapping the park at Afriski this winter!!
